Gillian Hobbs
Gillian’s straight forward lyrics and her stirring melodies have been capturing the hearts of audiences since she burst on the Canadian music scene in November 2008 with the release of her debut album: “Something to Write Home About.”
Influenced by Canadian legends like Leonard Cohen, Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell, and Jann Arden, Gillian’s music is honest, heartfelt and inspiring. What truly sets Gillian’s music apart is her lyrics. Her music ranges from love ballads to songs that inspire, and it expresses wisdom usually found in someone at least twice her age. Gillian’s down-to-earth, honest lyrics show an artist not afraid of her own vulnerability and show uncharacteristic maturity and insight for someone so young. Her songs are incredibly uplifting. They make her listeners feel good and encourage them to live their dreams. Look for her debut release: Something to Write Home About at www.itunes.com, or Zulu, Red Cat and Neptoon Records.
2009 was a fantastic year for this rising star. Gillian embarked on a hugely successful BC tour in the summer of 2009, including playing at two of BC’s finest music festivals: the Edge of the World Music Festival in Haida Gwaii, BC, and the Islands Folk Festival in Duncan, BC. She also recorded a track for the highly anticipated Rave On Studios Christmas compilation CD, A Very Vancouver Christmas Vol 4. with proceeds benefiting the SPCA. Her song, “Sit ‘Round The Fire” from the compilation, garnered the attention of the Music Industry Association of BC and was one of the BC Music Industry Association’s featured songs in the Hevy D Christmas Song Promotion initiated by Canwest Global and Hevy D Kettle Corn. 2010 is shaping up to be an even better year with many fantastic opportunities on the horizon, including performing as part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Gillian will also be a featured performer this year at David Suzuki’s Earth Run in Vancouver, BC. Most recently, Gillian was featured on Global Television’s Morning Cafe, performing one of her songs from “Something to Write Home About” and being interviewed about her shows at the Paralympics and David Suzuki’s Earth Run. She was also recently featured in the Vancouver Province newspaper, and on www.theprovince.com on The Province Playlist.
