Royal City Gogos

The Royal City Gogos is a group of New Westminster women who support the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign in its efforts on behalf of African grandmothers raising children orphaned by AIDS. We are one of 18 Grandmother groups in the Lower Mainland. Gogo is the Zulu word for grandmother.

Our mandate is to:

· Raise awareness of the plight of African grandmothers raising more 13 million orphans with little or no resources.

· Raise funds in support of programs that assist the grandmothers’ ability to raise the orphans, e.g. for school fees, community gardens and income generating projects, grief counselling and HIV protection programs.

· Advocate for the flow of anti-retroviral drugs to Africa to lower the rate of infection and death.
