Biggest Little Garden in Town
The purpose of Fraserside’s “Biggest Little Garden in Town” (BLGT) is to increase food production in New Westminster. The BLGT program provides its members with a balcony-sized, three-tiered cedar garden, soil, plants, seeds, spade, trowel, watering jug and handbook. All of this is provided free of charge and delivered to the member’s home.In turn, members care for the vegetable plants and promise that no food will be wasted. To be eligible to become a member, you must live in New Westminster and have little or no access to land. The program is targeted to low income apartment dwellers. Every BLGT member is invited to attend the free educational workshops offered in the spring and fall. Members are encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences with other participants.
The BLGT garden units will be for sale at the Royal City Farmer’s Market on July 2, 2009. The garden unit costs $150 (plus taxes). All proceeds from the sales will go back into the Biggest Little Garden in Town program in New Westminster. For more information call 604-512-6896 or emailblgt@fraserside.bc.ca
